Hey everyone, hope you are doing well.
For those of you still going through the system, I wish you the best. It is a tough process designed to beat you up and make you feel worthless. Do not give in. You made a mistake, you can learn from it and be better. You can turn your life around. You don’t have to let this define you. You don’t have to let this defeat you.
For those of you who have finished their obligations, I wish you the best as well. Remember the pain, remember the lessons, don’t repeat. You can do this.
Now, onto the reason for the newsletter…
Wanted to share a piece of news that I saw this morning - hidden deep inside the upcoming infrastructure bill that congress has been arguing back and forth on for what seems like months now, is a provision that would require every car manufactured after 2027 to have a passive alcohol monitoring system that would theoretically prevent drunk driving.
Sounds good right?
I looked into the technology and had some thoughts and concerns. I also thought through the legislation and how DUI laws are enforced right now and think there’s a few aspects of this that haven’t been thought through completely (or maybe they have and things are how they want them to be)
I just published a new post with my many thoughts about the subject here: No More DUIs in 2027? (and why it may not be a good thing)
There’s a lot to think about this, and I’d love to get your input on it, so I’ve created a discussion thread right where you can chime in and share your thoughts. (you can also tell me if you’d rather me just send my writeup in these newsletters instead of writing up something new… I’m still figuring this part out)
As always, feel free to contact me if you need somebody to talk to, or if you’d like to share your story and contribute to the blog. There are people out there who can be helped by hearing about your experiences.
Stay safe,
Tom
